25 Years of Partnerships: Celebrating the Relationships That Strengthen Our Movement
There are certain milestones that encourage us to pause and reflect. Whether it's celebrating a member's financial achievement, recognizing a credit union’s impact in its community or marking a professional anniversary, these moments remind us of how far we've come, and how much we've accomplished together. This year, as we celebrate #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, I have the privilege of reflecting on a personal milestone of 25 years of service within the corporate credit union movement.
When I began working for Vizo Financial in June 2001, I could not have imagined the experiences, relationships and opportunities that would shape my career over the next 25 years. Throughout those years, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: the unwavering commitment credit unions have for serving their members and communities.
As credit union professionals, we often focus on the future. We are developing new products, embracing new technologies, responding to changing member needs and finding innovative ways to strengthen the financial well-being of the people we serve. While that forward thinking mindset is essential, milestones like these offer a valuable opportunity to appreciate the foundation that makes this progress possible.
Partnership
The credit union movement thrives because of the relationships built between organizations, employees, volunteers, business partners and members. Every success story, whether it's helping a family purchase their first home, supporting a small business owner, providing financial education or guiding someone through a difficult financial situation, is the result of people working together toward a common goal – people helping people.
Over the past 25 years, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with dedicated professionals who genuinely believe in this credit union philosophy of people helping people. I've witnessed organizations come together during challenging times, celebrate achievements with one another and continually seek new ways to create positive change. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that our greatest strength isn't found in any single product, service or strategy, but rather in our commitment to one another.

Growth
My own recent MBA experience served as a reminder that growth comes from continually learning and embracing new educational challenges. Just as individuals continue to grow throughout their careers, our movement continues to evolve to meet individual needs. This growth allows us to navigate the ever-changing landscape of future generations, ensuring we can continue to achieve our goals. Because even as technology advances and the financial landscape changes, the values that define credit unions remain unchanged. That's one of the many reasons I love being part of this industry.
Appreciation
On #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, we celebrate more than institutions. We celebrate the people behind them, like the employees who go above and beyond, the leaders who champion innovation, the volunteers who dedicate their time and the members who place their trust in us every day.
As I reflect on 25 years in this movement, I am filled with gratitude. Gratitude for the mentors who offered guidance, the colleagues who became friends, the credit unions that have partnered with us and the countless opportunities to contribute to a mission that truly makes a difference.
Most importantly, I'm grateful to be part of a community that continues to prove that when we work together, we can achieve what credit unions have set out to do.
As we celebrate #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the relationships, accomplishments and partnerships that have shaped your own journey. Share your stories, recognize those who have made an impact and celebrate the collective efforts that strengthen our movement every day.
