Victory Junction: The Fast Track to Giving Back
You’ve heard of NASCAR, right? The stakes are high. The cars are fast. The excitement is palpable. Every driver, fan and member of the pit crew lives for the thrill of the chase. From roaring engines to nail-biting finishes, it’s not just a race – it’s the pursuit of victory.
But there’s another place that captures this same energy and enthusiasm…a place where victory takes on an even deeper meaning. That place is Victory Junction.
About Victory Junction
Victory Junction is a camp for children who suffer from serious illnesses and disabilities, such as burn injuries, cancer, cerebral palsy, neurological disorders and much, much more. The camp comes at no cost to families and provides fun and exhilarating activities that help these children build confidence, make enduring friendships and experience things they never thought possible.
The goal of the camp is to give children whose lives are filled with limitations and boundaries a chance to discover just how resilient they are and help them learn more about their abilities. From ziplining and kayaking to caring for horses and racing simulations, every activity is designed to empower the campers to embrace who they truly are and their unique strengths to create long-lasting life skills.
In fact, the impacts are incredible to see. According to Victory Junction, 79 percent of parents saw an increase in their child’s confidence after attending the camp; 80 percent of campers expanded their horizons and tried new things after their camp experience; 77 percent of campers reported a greater sense of self-confidence; and 74 percent of campers became more independent.
Victory Junction’s NASCAR Inspiration
Located in Randleman, North Carolina, Victory Junction was founded in 2004 by Kyle and Richard Petty in honor of Kyle’s son, Adam, who passed away during a racing accident and never had the opportunity to fulfill his passion for helping sick children. Since then, Victory Junction has served tens of thousands of campers and their families from across the country, welcoming them with the giant replica of the race car Adam drove in his first major winning race. You can’t miss its gloriousness!
Getting Involved
For credit unions, being involved in our communities is simply ingrained in who we are. With cooperative principles of concern for community and diversity, equity and inclusion firmly at the foundation of our movement, it’s not hard to see why Victory Junction is a perfect fit as a community partner.
That’s why Vizo Financial, as well as many other credit unions, have been long-time supporters of Victory Junction. We’ve been a corporate sponsor for several years and recently had staff members participate in the annual (and always enjoyable) Run to Victory 5K and Fun Run. It’s the camp’s biggest fundraiser each year, bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep the camp running at no cost to the campers and their families.
But that’s not the only way to get involved with this fantastic organization. Credit unions and all organizations alike are encouraged to “FUNraise” for Victory Junction through DIY fundraisers and donation options. Check out all the ways your credit union can embrace our community-driven nature to give back to Victory Junction!
A Victorious Organization
Victory Junction’s quest to accelerate the possibilities and, ultimately, the quality of life for sick and disabled children continues to run at high speed – with no finish line in sight. Adam Petty’s dreams of helping children have been brought to fruition, as the camp is truly victorious in changing the lives of the campers and their families. At Vizo Financial, we’re thrilled to support Victory Junction…a place where giving back is always on the fast track!
